I have bought new seat belt mounting plates for my classic europa and I'm not sure how to fit them. I was told to fit them from the rear arch but also from underneath by someone else. can anyone shine any light on the subject please?

It's a while since I did this job but I think the answer is both (i.e. via the wheel arch & the bottom of the sill).
On my car the two bolts which hold the plate in place go through from the bottom of the sill to the interior of the car. So these have to be taken out. But to get the old plate out & the new one in you would have to open up the sill over a longer length so I opted to remove & replace the plate via the wheel arch. If you remove the blanking off bits at the front of the rear wheel arches you can access the plates. Seem to remember it is a bit of a squeeze (but then again a lot of work on the Europa is).
Replacing the plates is a very worthwhile task. Because of their position, they can get into a pretty poor state without you being aware.
Hope this helps.

That's great thankyou. Going in from underneath seams to be difficult as I don't know where the join is. I have already taken off the rear inner wings panels and yes, it does look like a sqeeze but I know it has to be possible. The plates are rattling around at the moment so not a very pleasant drive. I shall have another go.

Well just to keep you up to date with things, I realise why I was struggling to see how on earth I could squeeze anything into the sill area. My plates had obviously dissintegrated many years ago and had been replaced with a metal square bar the full length arch to arch which had been tapped to take the seat belt bolt. I've now released the sill and removed the bar so all is good now. Just need some suitable new seat belt bolts, some filler to cover up the new rivets, a bit of paint and the jobs done. Thanks for your help again, I quess we made history being the first to use this new forum. keep up the good work J & W.

If at anytime we cant get what we need through the group we are building a list of contacts via other sites where you can find just about anything for any model so we should be in a good position to help each other. Now all I need is another engine for my Esprit.
